Key Steps for Winterizing Your Outboard
Fuel System
Add stabilizer to the fuel and run the engine to ensure the treated fuel circulates throughout the entire system.
We recommend Yamalube Fuel Stabilizer and Conditioner Plus.
Engine Flush
Flush the engine with fresh water to remove salt, dirt and other contaminants.
Follow the flushing directions in your owner’s manual.
Oil Change
If you haven’t done so recently, it’s a good idea to change your engine oil and filter now to remove any built-up acids and be ready for next season.
We recommend Yamaha original oil filters and Yamalube Marine engine oil to keep your engine running its best.
Lower Unit
Drain and refill the lower unit gear oil, checking for any water contamination. We recommend Yamalube Marine Gear Case Lube or Yamaha Marine Gear Case Lube HD.
Check your owner’s manual to confirm which is right for your outboard. Always use new gaskets on the filler plugs.
Battery Care
Connect to a battery maintainer type charger to ensure the battery remains fully charged and will be ready to go next season.
Many boats consume a small amount of power to maintain radio memory, dash settings, etc. This will drain your battery in a few weeks if no charger is connected.
Taking the time to properly store your outboard now will help prevent any issues when next season begins – and extend the life of your engine.
Book your appointment at North Shore Marine soon to avoid the seasonal rush.
